Now This is Golden
February 24, 2019
On this seventh and last Sunday of the Epiphany season we hear Jesus speak what we’ve come to call the “Golden Rule.” Given its place within Jesus’ sermon on the level plain, we ought not to hear it the way we hear those rules from the book, “All I Need to Know I learned in Kindergarten.”
Rather, when Jesus says, “Do to others as you would have them do to you,” he’s saying those who keep following him and keep on listening to him relate to one another, i.e., think of one another and act toward one another, according to the attitudes, beliefs, feelings and actions of God’s kingdom.
At our 9:30 A.M., Sunday worship, in prayer, Word, song, sermon and Meal, Jesus invites us to imagine – and reimagine – those attitudes, beliefs, feelings and behaviors we can extend which reflect the life-giving, freedom-bringing, home-giving mercy God keeps pouring out on each of us.
